This house is located just over Shilshole Bay Marina. Obviously the views to the west were outstanding, and typical for the period, these views were blocked by the fireplace! The primary windows faced south, away from the view. Our challenge was to open up the views to the west, maintain the integrity of original window details and create a porch that gave everyone an opportunity to enjoy the vista. This is a walking neighborhood, where residents are outside every evening to enjoy the end of the day. In other words, Old Style Ballard Living! We enjoyed working on this house immensely; updating the kitchen, creating a dining room out of an old bedroom and repairing all the windows to full operation was very satisfying. The original porch had long been torn down, and from the archival photograph, we were able to restore the porch to the original design and craft.
